But Yossie didn’t give up. He went around to the back hall. There was Shloimy with all of the Stern family’s shoes lined up on the floor. He was busy shining them, l’kvod Shabbos. “Please, may I help you polish the shoes? I would love to help prepare for Shabbos.”

“Oh, Yossie!” came the expected reply, “you’re too little to shine shoes. You’ll spill the polish and make a mess all over everything. Why don’t you go call Eli? I’m sure he’d be happy to come and play with you.”
