FOOTNOTES:
==========
(1) If one stayed in a contaminated house for the time that it takes to eat half of a loaf ("Achilas P'ras"), the clothes he is wearing become Tamei (but he himself becomes Tamei immediately upon entering the house).
(2) According to RASHI, if a person eats this amount of Tamei food, he becomes Tamei and if he touches Terumah, it becomes Pasul. According to RABEINU TAM, if a person eats this amount of Tamei food, he does *not* become Tamei, but he becomes forbidden to eat Terumah. (The Rabanan later decreed that if a person eats even a *k'Beitzah* of Tamei food, he becomes Tamei and he makes Terumah Pasul; this was one of the "18 Gezeiros" (Shabbos 14a; see Tosfos there, and Tosfos here, 82b, DH v'Chatzi).
(3) The Gemara explains that these measures are not exact. Rather, Rebbi Yehudah shrinks them slightly, and Rebbi Yosi increases them slightly. Rebbi also increased them, by either 1/20th or 1/80th per Beitzah (RASHI DH Shi'er). (TOSFOS [83b, DH Shiv'as] and Rashi [Shabbos 15a DH Chamishah v'Od] appear to understand that when Rebbi, in the Beraisa, says that 1/20th or 1/80th must be added to each Beitzah, he is simply *explaining* Rebbi Yosi's opinion. However, it seems from RASHI in our Sugya (83a, DH Kamah) that Rebbi is a new opinion, and he argues with Rebbi Yosi.)
(4) Eight Beitzim makes up a complete loaf of bread, which generally constitutes two meals. Rebbi Shimon, though, maintains that we are lenient with regard to making an Eruv and 2/3rds of a loaf suffices to be considered as two meals.
(5) According to Rebbi Nasan and Rebbi Dosa, this amount includes the eggshell, and is an exact figure (that is, we do not include any increase or decrease). According to the Chachamim, this amount is *without* the eggshell, but is also an exact figure.
