Eruvin 26

ERUVIN 26-29 has been sponsored by Rabbi and Mrs. Eli Turkel of Ra'anana, Israel

1)

(a) According to Rashi's first explanation, what did Rav Huna bar Chinena do to permit the Resh Galusa to eat under that large shady tree in his orchard - which was more than a Beis Sasayim and not Hukaf le'Dirah?

(b) What did Rava subsequently do?

2)
(a) The Gemara brings three proofs (which are in fact, three reasons) for Rava. How does ...
1. ...Ravina prove Rava right from the difference between the measurement of Techum Shabbos of a new town and that of an old town? What determines whether a town is old or new in this regard?
2. ... Rav Papa prove Rava right from a builder's wall?
3. ... Rav Huna Brei de'Rav Yehoshua prove him right from Rav Huna's Din of a wall that is built to protect? What does Rav Huna say there?
(b) What is the proof from the Peira de'Bei Turi, that such a wall is not effective?

(c) What was the Resh Galusa's reaction to all this?

3)
(a) What was the case, according to Rashi's second explanation, and what did the Resh Galusa want to do?

(b) Why did Rava pull out the posts, according to this Lashon?

(c) The three Amora'im were now coming, not to prove Rava *right*, but to prove him *wrong*, because we see from the various proofs that an Achsadra cannot be considered a regular dwelling (as we explained above), in which case, a Tikun *was* necessary. How do we now explain the Pasuk in Yirmiyah, quoted by the Resh Galusa "Chachamim Hemah, Lehara, u'Leheitiv Lo Yada'u"?
To whom was he referring?

4)
(a) Rebbi Ilai, in our Mishnah, quoting Rebbi Eliezer, permitted carrying in a garden or in an enclosure the size of a Beis Kur. How does Chananyah quote Rebbi Eliezer, and how does that clash with Rebbi Ilai?

(b) Both Tana'im learn from the Pasuk in Melachim "Vayehi Yeshayahu Lo Yatza Chatzer ha'Tichonah".
What do we learn from the fact that the Pasuk refers to the town as a Chatzer?

(c) What is the basis of their Machlokes?

5)
(a) What was Yeshayah doing in Chizkiyah's Chatzer?

(b) Why is this not something that we should emulate?

6)
(a) Rebbi Ilai in our Mishnah (who permits the members of the Chatzer who remembered to make an Eruv to carry from the house of the one who forgot, to the Chatzer - and vice-versa - but not the person himself), must be speaking when the person who forgot was Mevatel his Reshus to them.
Why is that? What would the Din have been had he not done so?

(b) Since the person who forgot to make an Eruv is nevertheless permitted to carry from *their* houses to the Chatzer (and vice-versa) - just like any visitor is - why not from his own?

(c) How will we reconcile our Mishnah with the Mishnah later (in Perek ha'Dar), which forbids even the other members of the Chatzer from carrying from *his* Reshus to the Chatzer?

Answers to questions

7)

(a) What is the basis of the Machlokes between Rebbi Eliezer and the Rabbanan?

(b) What is the Chidush of Rav Sheshes, who finds it necessary to point this out?

(c) The previous statement was made by Rav Kahana. Rav Tivyomi quotes Rav Sheshes in connection with the Beraisa, which says that when a member of a Chatzer who did not make an Eruv is Mevatel his Reshus, he does not need to be Mevatel it to each one individually.
What does Rav Sheshes say about that? What (minor) point do Rav Kahana and Rav Tivyomi argue?

8)
(a) What are the two possible reasons for ...
1. ... Rebbi Eliezer's ruling ...
2. ... the Rabbanan's ruling ...
... and what difference will the reason make?

(b) What is the Gemara's outcome?

(c) Rebbi Ilai quoting Rebbi Eliezer, also permits the use of Arkablin as Maror on Pesach.
What is Arkablin?

Hadran Alach 'Osin Pasin'!

Perek ba'Kol Me'arvin
9)
(a) What are the only two commodities that cannot be used for an Eruv or for Shituf Mavo'os?

(b) What is the reason for this?

(c) What kind of Eruv is the Mishnah referring to?

(d) Water and salt are also the only two commodities that may not be purchased with the money of Ma'aser Sheni.
From which other Halachah (in the area of Nedarim) are they precluded?

10)
(a) May one make an Eruv Chatzeros or a Shitufei Muva'os of wine for a Nazir, of Terumah for a Kohen or for a Kohen in a Beis ha'Peras - according to the Tana Kama?

(b) With which of these does Sumchus disagree?

(c) Why does Rebbi Yehudah permit even making an Eruv for a Kohen in a graveyard?

(d) What is the underlying principle of Eruvei Chatzeros and Techumin?
