Pesachim 108

***************GIRSA SECTION********************
We recommend using the textual changes suggested by the Bach, Rav B. Rensburg and the parenthetical marginal notes of the Vilna Shas. This section is devoted to any *OTHER* changes that we feel ought to be made in Gemara, Rashi or Tosfos.)

[1] Gemara 108b [line 5]:
"Shesa'an Chai Yatza: Amar Rava, Yedei Yayin Yatza, Yedei Cheirus Lo Yatza;
Shesa'an Bevas Achas: Rav Amar, Yedei *Yayin* Yatza, Yedei Arba'ah Kosos Lo Yatza"
The Girsa of the Rif and the Rambam is "Shesa'an Chai Yatza: Amar Rava,
Yedei *Arba'ah Kosos* Yatza, Yedei Cheirus Lo Yatza; Shesa'an Bevas Achas:
Rav Amar, Yedei *Cheirus* Yatza, Yedei Arba'ah Kosos Lo Yatza"

[2] Gemara 108b [line 13]:
The words "v'At Amart Kos Yafeh"
should be "v'At Amart *Kedei Mezigas* Kos Yafeh"
(This is the Girsa in the manuscripts and in the Rashbam and Tosfos -
Dikdukei Sofrim #7)

[3] RASHBAM 108b DH Amar Rebbi Yehudah Amar Shemuel 4 Kosos:
The words "v'Hashta Ka Salka Da'atach d'Mezigas Kos Yafeh *v'Rova Revi'is*
Lav Chad Shi'ur Hu"
should be "v'Hashta Ka Salka Da'atach d'Mezigas Kos Yafeh *v'Revi'is* Lav
Chad Shi'ur Hu" (M. Kornfeld)
************************************************

1) [line 3] MIS'AD SA'ID - it satiates
2) [line 30] PERAKDAN - lying on one's back
3) [line 34] ISHAH CHASHUVAH - (a) a woman whose husband is not critical with regard to her behavior (CHOK YAKOV 472:8, citing the ROKE'ACH #283); (b) a widow who is the head of her household; (c) a woman who does exceptional deeds, is the daughter of the Gedolei ha'Dor and is a rare example of an Eishes Chayil in her fear of HaSh-m; (d) an affluent woman who has servants and does not have to tend to the chores of the house (b, c, d - KESEF MISHNAH Hilchos Chametz u'Matzah 7:8, citing HA'RAV MANO'ACH)

4a) [line 37] ZAGINAN - we would lean
b) [line 37] A'BIRKEI D'HADADI - on each other's knees
5) [line 41] SHEVALYA D'NAGAREI - a carpenter's apprentice

108b---------------------------------------108b

6) [line 3] KEDEI MEZIGAS KOS YAFEH - an amount of undiluted wine necessary to achieve the proper dilution when water is added by a ratio of three parts water to one part undiluted wine; i.e. 1/4 of a Revi'is (a Revi'is is 1/4 of a Log)

7) [line 3] SHESA'AN CHAI - if he drank them without diluting them in water
*8*) [line 13] V'AT AMART KOS YAFEH? - (a) RASHBAM: How can Shmuel say that each cup may be one quarter of a Revi'is (k'Dei Mezigas Kos Yafeh), when the Beraisa says that each must be a Revi'is? The Gemara concludes that Shmuel also meant to say that each cup must be 1/4 Revi'is *mixed with three parts water*, i.e. a Revi'is; (b) RASHI, according to Rashbam: How can Shmuel state that between all four cups a person must drink a Revi'is (i.e. k'Dei Mezigas Kos Yafeh), when the Beraisa seems to say that *each cup* must be a Revi'is? The Gemara concludes that Shmuel, too, meant that *each cup* must be a Revi'is. (c) RASHI, as we have it: How can Shmuel state that between all four cups a person must drink 1/4 Revi'is (which is k'Dei Mezigas Kos Yafeh), if the Beraisa says that between all four cups a person must drink a Revi'is? The Gemara answers that Shmuel too requires a Revi'is between all four cups, and he meant that *each cup* must be 1/4 Revi'is (i.e. k'Dei Mezigas Kos Yafeh), such that the four together total a Revi'is. (According to this latter approach, 1/4 Revi'is per cup suffices, and a full Revi'is is not needed.)

9) [line 18] "AL TERE YAYIN KI YIS'ADAM, [KI YITEN BA'KOS EINO, YIS'HALECH B'MEISHARIM]" - "Do not look upon wine when it is red; [when a person eyes a cup, whatever he does, he considers just (any path he follows he considers straight).]" (Mishlei 23:31)
