Rosh Hashanah 6

ROSH HASHANAH 2-10 sponsored by a generous grant from an anonymous donor. Kollel Iyun Hadaf is indebted to him for his encouragement and support and prays that Hashem will repay him in kind.

1) [line 12] AZHARAH L'VEIS DIN SHE'YA'ASUCHA - this is a commandment to Beis Din to force you [to bring your pledges and vows]

2a) [line 22] KOL HEICHA DE'ISEI - wherever it may be
b) [line 23] BEI GAZA D'RACHMANA ISEI - it is in HaSh-m's treasury (Therefore, as soon as it has been set aside and consecrated it is considered as if it were delivered into the hands of Hekdesh)

3) [line 35] MECHUSAR ZEMAN
(a) It is forbidden to offer an animal as a sacrifice before it is eight days old, as is stated in Vayikra (22:27) "Shor O Chesev O Ez Ki Yivaled, ve'Hayah Shiv'as Yamim Tachas Imo; umi'Yom ha'Shemini va'Hal'ah Yeratzeh le'Korban Isheh la'Sh-m." ("When a bull, sheep or goat is born, it must remain with its mother for seven days; then, after the eighth day, it shall be acceptable as a sacrifice for a fire offering to G-d.")
(b) An animal that is less than eight days old is called "Mechusar Zeman", since time must pass before it can be offered as a Korban

4) [line 40] RE'IYAH
Every Jewish male is required to bring a Korban Re'iyah on the three festivals. If the Korban was not brought on the first day of the festival, it may be brought on any of other six days of Pesach. On Sukos it may be brought on the first day or the next seven days and on Shavu'os it may be brought on Shavuos or on the six days following the festival.

5) [line 41] SIMCHAH
(a) The Mitzvah of Simchah (Devarim 27:7) that applies on the three Holidays of Pesach, Shavu'os and Sukos requires a person to eat from sacrifices every day of the holiday. If no other sacrifice is available, the person brings a special Korban, known as Shalmei Simchah, for the purpose of fulfilling this Mitzvah. Women are also obligated in this Mitzvah (RAMBAM Hilchos Chagigah 1:1).
(b) Besides offering extra Korbanos, the Mitzvah of Simchah also requires that all of the Jews be happy on the holidays. Buying food and clothing that cause one to be happy, each person according to his taste, fulfills this Mitzvah. One must also remember to support the poor and downtrodden on Yom Tov, for if one spends one's time eating and drinking without helping the poor, it is not considered a Simchah Shel Mitzvah; rather, it is Simchas Kreiso (a feast for one's stomach) (RAMBAM Hilchos Yom Tov 6:17-18)

*6*) [line 42] V'HA'AMAR ABAYE, ISHAH, BA'ALAH MESAMCHAH - that is, the obligation is upon her husband to make her happy (she has no obligation in the Mitzvah of Simchah)

7) [last line] MI'SHA'AH SHE'NIR'EH L'HARTZA'AH - from when it is [eight days old and is] accepted as a Korban
