Yevamos 35

YEVAMOS 35 (26 Teves) - dedicated towards the support of Kollel Iyun Hadaf in memory of Rochel Chava bas Yitzchok Leib (on her Yahrzeit) by her son, Yaakov Wollner of Baltimore.

1) [line 4] HORA'AS SHA'AH HAYESAH - it was a special dispensation, not to be taken as a precedent

2) [line 20] MESHAMESHES B'MOCH - has relations using cloths to prevent her from becoming pregnant

3) [line 22] MENATRAH NAFSHAH - she guards herself [and makes sure that she does not become pregnant]

4) [line 30] MIS'HAPECHES - turns over (in such a way that prevents unwanted pregnancy)

5) [line 35] V'ANHERINHU L'AININ MI'MASNISIN - and "lit up our eyes," i.e. brought us a proof from a Mishnah (on 53b)

6) [line 39] TERUMAH D'VEI NASHAIHU - the Terumah of their father's household. The daughter of a Kohen eats Terumah before she marries a non- Kohen and after she becomes a widow or a divorcee and has no children from him, as stated in Vayikra 22:13.

7) [line 9] SAFEK BEN TISH'A LA'RISHON O BEN SHIVA LA'ACHARON - If a woman remarried within three months of her previous marriage and gave birth six months later, we are in doubt if the baby born is the son of the first husband after a full gestation period, or if he is the premature baby of the second husband. The Gemara is discussing a case where we have a doubt whether the child that is born is the son of the dead brother (in which case Yibum was prohibited), or of the Yavam (in which case it was a valid Yibum.)

8) [line 11] ASHAM TALUY
The Korban Asham Taluy is a ram worth two Sela'im that is offered when a person is in doubt as to whether he committed a transgression for which he must bring a Korban Chatas. If he later discovers that he did indeed sin, he must offer a Korban Chatas; the Asham Taluy only provides temporary atonement during the period of doubt.
