Yoma 7

YOMA 7 (Teves 23) - has been dedicated to the memory of Nachum ben Shlomo Dovid Mosenkis on the day of his Yahrzeit, by his son, Sid Mosenkis (Queens, NY)

1) [line 3] MINCHAS HA'OMER
(a) There is a Mitzvah to bring the Korban ha'Omer on the second day of Pesach. A large quantity of barley is reaped after nightfall after the first day of Pesach. At this time the grain is still moist, and the process of extracting one Omer (approximately 2.5 or 4.3 liters, depending upon the differing Halachic opinions) of barley flour is extremely difficult. The flour is baked and offered as a Korban Minchah on the 16th of Nisan. It is also referred to as the Minchas Bikurim -- Vayikra 2:14-16).
(b) In addition, a lamb is offered as an Olah, as it states in Vayikra 23:12.
(c) The Korban ha'Omer is the first offering of the new grain of the year, and as such it removes the prohibition against eating from the new grain.

2) [line 8] MINCHAS PARIM, EILIM U'CHEVASIM (MINCHAS NESACHIM)
The Minchas Nesachim is a Korban Minchah (meal-offering) that is brought together with a Korban Shelamim or Olah, whether the Korban is offered by the Tzibur (Bamidbar 28:11-15, 20-21) or by an individual (Bamidbar 15:3- 16). It is called Minchas "Nesachim" because it is normally brought along with the Nesachim (wine libations) that are offered with these Korbanos.

3) [line 16] KEVES HA'BA IM HA'OMER - see above, entry #1b

4) [line 19] AL MAH HA'TZITZ MERATZEH (RITZUY TZITZ)
(a) Tum'ah renders Korbanos unfit for being offered. Therefore, if the *blood* of a Korban becomes Tamei before it is cast on the Mizbe'ach (Zerikas ha'Dam), it becomes prohibited to do Zerikas ha'Dam. Similarly, Rebbi Yehoshua rules that if all of the *meat and Chelev* of a Korban becomes Tamei before Zerikas ha'Dam, it becomes prohibited to do Zerikas ha'Dam (Pesachim 77b). In addition, if the *Eimurim* or parts of a Korban that are to be offered on the Mizbe'ach, become Teme'im even after Zerikas ha'Dam, it becomes prohibited to offer them afterwards.
(b) However, all these laws apply only l'Chatchilah. B'Di'eved, if the Kohen did Zerikas ha'Dam b'Tum'ah and the Kohen Gadol was wearing the Tzitz at the time, the Tzitz makes the Kohen's Avodah acceptable. The Korban may be eaten and the owner has fulfilled his obligation. This Halachah is learned from the verse, "... l'Ratzon Lahem Lifnei HaSh-m." (Shemos 28:38). However, if the meat became Tamei, the Tzitz does not render it fit to be *eaten*.
(c) Korbenos Tzibur (public sacrifices) do not need the Tzitz to render them acceptable. If they become Teme'im through one of the above-mentioned Tum'os, they may be offered l'Chatchilah. Also, if all of the Kohanim are Teme'im, they may offer Korbanos l'Chatchilah. These Korbanos, however, even thought they were offered b'Tum'ah, may not be eaten (with the exception of the Korban Pesach, which is a Korban Tzibur that may be offered b'Tum'ah and also eaten b'Tum'ah).

5) [line 28] PIGUL
The word Pigul in this Gemara, according to RASHI, is referring to Chutz Limekomo. A Korban that was slaughtered with the intention of eating it or offering it outside of the *area* designated for it becomes invalid, and may not be eaten or offered on the Mizbe'ach.

6) [last line] NOSAR
The word Nosar in this Gemara, according to RASHI, is referring to Chutz Lizemano. A Korban that was slaughtered with the intention of eating it or offering it after its allotted *time* becomes invalid, and may not be eaten or offered on the Mizbe'ach. This is usually referred to as "Pigul" (see TOSFOS DH Im Avon for an alternative Girsa).

7) [line 12] D'TALI B'SICHTA - when it is hanging on a peg
8) [line 15] MEINAM - to sleep
9) [line 16] SHE'LO YASI'ACH DA'ATO MIMENU - that he should not take his mind off of it
