Course Description: A comprehensive study of some of the laws of salting and removing blood (Part I). The course examines selected Halachic texts, primarily the Shulchan Aruch, focusing on understanding Halachic methodology and practical application.
Required Texts: Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah with commentaries of Shach and Taz, Tur Shulchan Aruch with commentaries of Beit Yosef, Bach and Darkei Moshe.
Course Objectives and Expected Outcomes: The course carefully follows the laws as outlined in the Shulchan Aruch. Upon successful completion of the course, students will demonstrate mastery of the various laws pertaining to the requirement to remove blood from meat. Students will develop the ability to rule on the applications of laws as well as to extrapolate from the material studied to draw precedents that will apply to contemporary questions not covered within the traditional Halachic literature.
Instructional Format: Guided self-study: This course is taught in an online format based on a guided self-study model. Students receive lessons on various topics twice a week. Lessons focus on selected texts related to Biblical Law and Rabbinic traditions and the understanding of Halachic methodology and practical applications.
