CHASIDIC INSIGHTS PARSHAS B'SHALACH 5765 BS"D

Ch. 13, v. 19: "Va'yikach Moshe es atzmos Yoseif imo" - Moshe took the "essence," "atzmius," of Yoseif with himself. Just as Yoseif sustained his brothers in Egypt in spite of their having sold him into bondage, so too, Moshe attended to all the needs of the bnei Yisroel in the desert for 40 years in spite of all their complaints and non-compliance with Hashem's will. (M'ga'leh Amukos)

Ch. 13, v. 19: "Ki hashbei'a hishbia es bnei Yisroel leimore pokode yifkode Elokim es'chem" - Yoseif kept the bnei Yisroel's spirits and hope for redemption alive. He made the bnei Yisroel swear "leimore," to say one to another and to coming generations "pokode yifkode .." Hashem will surely redeem you. (Noam Elimelech)

Ch. 13, v. 21: "Lanchosom ha'derech" - The one and only path to pursue is "lanchosom," to give "nachas" to Hashem by fulfilling His commandments. (Admor of Radomsk in Tiferes Shlomo)

Ch. 14, v. 2: "Va'yoshuvu va'yachanu lifnei pi hachiros" - And they should deliberate (yishuv hadaas) and calmly calculate (M'nuchoh) before they give freedom to their mouth to speak. (Nirreh li)

Ch. 14, v. 3: "N'vuchim heim bo'oretz" - They have gone astray in pursuit of earthiness, "artzius." (Rabbi Yitzchok Yaakov of Biala in Divrei Vinoh)

Ch. 14, v. 3: "Sogar a'lei'hem hamidbar" - Because they have gone astray in pursuit of "artzius," their power of speaking to Hashem in prayer is closed, "sogar a'lei'hem hamda'beir." (Rabbi Moshe of Kobrin in Toras Ovos)

Ch. 14, v. 9: "Al pi hachiros lifnei baal tz'fone" - The gemara A.Z. says that two sages said that they would walk in front of a house of idol worship to subjugate/negate their inclination for idol worship. This is alluded to in the words of our verse, "al pi hachiros," to have freedom from sin, "lifnei baal tz'fone," to go in front of baal tz'fone. (Nirreh li)

Ch. 14, v. 10: "V'hi'nei Mitzrayim no'sei'a achar'ei'hem va'yeeru m'ode" - Rashi writes that the Egyptians chased after the bnei Yisroel in a united effort, "b'leiv echod k'ish echod." Unity, a wonderful trait that the Egyptians now displayed, is what brought about their fear. (Nirreh li)

Ch. 15, v. 4: "Umivchar sholishov tubu v'yam suf" - And free choice (b'chiroh) was given to the chariot drivers to enter the yam suf, even though it defied logic, so that they should be sunk. (Kedushas Levi)

Ch. 15, v. 16: "Tipole a'lei'hem eimosoh vofachad" - Rashi explains that "eimoh," awe, upon those who are far, and "pachad," fear, upon those who are near. Those who are far are overt enemies, who want to distance themselves from us out of hatred. Those who are near are covert enemies, who want to destroy us through "befriending" us in an attempt to defile us. (Rabbi Chaim Mayer of Vizhnitz in Likutei Imrei Chaim)

Ch. 15, v. 18: "Hashem yimloch l'olom vo'ed" - It is easy to say "Hashem MELECH" when we are in the midst of seeing the open miracles of the splitting of yam suf. What is required is to remain with this resolve long after the miracle has ended, "Hashem YIMLOCH."

Ch. 17, v. 9: "V'tzei hilocheim baAmoleik mochor" - Go out in battle against the Amoleik of "tomorrow," i.e. the evil inclination that makes you procrastinate, "Tomorrow I will repent," etc. (Rabbi Yisroel of Tchortkov in Yismach Yisroel)
