You Have It All

"Young man, how can I help you?"

"I came to your store to buy a few things, sir."

"Yes, what do you need?"

"First of all, I need a camera."

"I can tell you about a very sophisticated model."

"Please do."

"This model produces a picture with a clarity unmatched by any other camera. It has a memory card whose advanced technology allows it to store an unlimited number of images. It records both still photos, and moving pictures with sound. It can recall any image from is memory almost instantaneously. It can be used for long hours and is very durable. In addition, its lens is self-adjusting and self- cleaning. It can adjust to any normal level of light and dark, and requires no flash."

"That is unbelievable, sir. No other camera in the world has such performance."

"That is not exactly true, young man. There are many cameras like this, you just don't notice them."

"Very well. I am also in the market for a pump."

"We have a very compact, powerful, and durable model. I will describe it to you. It is about the size of your fist. It can pump five liters of liquid a minute, which is 7200 liters (about 1900 gallons) a day. Our pump can generate enough pressure to push liquid through a long, complicated, system of tubes and vessels. It is also very durable and certain models have been in service over 100 years."

"Wow, that sounds marvelous, sir. You have already made two sales. Now, I also need a filter, to purify the liquid in the pumping system."

"No problem, young man. I have a filter system that is designed to work along with the pump. It contains two filters, each one weighing 150 grams. Together they can filter 1700 liters (approximately 470 gallons) of liquid a day. They remove all impurities, and dispose of them in the form of a liquid. They are self cleaning, and self repairing."

"Sir, your products are amazing. Do you also sell computers?"

"I certainly do, young man. I have the most advanced computer model on the face of this earth. It has an unlimited amount of storage memory and RAM. It can perform trillions of calculations each second. It stores information, images, sounds, smells, and even thoughts and feelings. It can recall any of these things from its memory instantaneously. It can make complicated searches, comparisons, calculations, and even decisions using any or all of this information. It is also capable of running complicated equipment - motors, pumps, thermostats, timers, heaters, cameras, sound recorders, lifts, cranes, filters, as well as all sorts of other equipment."

"Your computer sounds out of this world, sir."

"It is, young man. It was designed and built by the same engineer who made the camera, pump, and filter."

"Do you have any of His other products?"

"As a matter of fact, He has an advanced telecommunications cable. Are you interested?"

"Yes, sir."

"It is 1.8 centimeters thick, and very flexible. It is protected with tough shielding. Inside are 31 pairs of fine cables. The entire system can carry hundreds of thousands of subtle electrical impulses simultaneously. When used in conjunction with the computer, it can control the complicated system of pumps, motors, cranes, and other equipment. It also transmits information about the environment and the equipment back to the central computer."

"Amazing. Is there anything else?"

"Yes, one last item - an air pump. It is made of many tiny little sacks with a total surface area of 70 square meters - the size of a small apartment. They draw in air and pump it out 20,000 times each day. The air can be used for cooling, or as a source of oxygen. This pump, like the liquid one, has been known to last over 100 years."

"Sir, you have convinced me. You have truly outstanding products. They are out of this world. I would like to purchase one of each one."

"I appreciate your interest young man; however, these items are not for sale."

"What? Is this some kind of joke? You have just spent several minutes telling me about these wonderful machines, and now you refuse to sell them to me. Why?"

"Because, young man, you already own them."

"Now I am really confused. I do not have one of these items in my possession."

"Yes you do. The camera is your eyes. They are the best camera in the world."

"I see."

"Yes, you certainly do. The pump is your heart, and the filter is your kidneys."

"Wait a minute. Are all of these things parts of my body?"

"Yes, young man."

"Let me guess - the computer is my brain."

"Correct!"

"The air pump is my lungs."

"Right again."

"There is only one thing left - the telecommunications cable. That is . . . my spine."

"Now you have connected everything together. I am sure you know Who the engineer is."

"Of course. The Master Designer. The Creator of the Universe. The Holy One Blessed Be He. None other than Hashem Yisborach."

"Correct again. He designed your mind and body with unfathomable wisdom. Its technology is far more advanced than anything that we can even dream of, much less develop. It is truly a wonder of wonders. We should take the time to think about this. That will lead us to appreciate our minds, bodies, and our health. More importantly, we will appreciate The One Who designed, built, and gave us this wonderful gift, and Who keeps it running all of the time."

"Thank you very much sir. I have acquired much more in your store than a few household items. You have given me a whole new outlook on life, and appreciation of Hashem."

Kinderlach . . .

Yaakov Avinu met his brother Eisav in this week's parasha. How did he describe his possessions to his brother? "I have everything" (Bereshis 33:11). Rashi explains that all of his needs were met. This is one of Hashem's many chassadim (acts of kindness). He supplies us with the food, water, clothing, and shelter that we need. He also gives us something more basic - life itself. He put our soul into a body that is a marvel of super advanced engineering technology. It is something that only the Wisdom of the Creator could design and build. Kinderlach, we should appreciate and thank Hashem for the wonderful gift that He gave us. A good time is when we make the blessing "asher yatzar." This blessing describes the infinite wisdom and wonders of the human body. He gave you the world's greatest camera, computer, telecommunications system, pumping and filtration system, and much, much more. You have it all.
