Junior Hunt

Materials Required:

  • Popsicle sticks or pipe cleaners
  • Spoon or Brush (optional)

If your child will enjoy playing junior archaeologist this activity is for him.

Collect as many popsicle sticks as you can find, the sticks are about to become dinosaur bones. If you don’t hve popsicle sticks than use pipe cleaners. Indoors, hide the popsicle sticks or pipe cleaners in "digs" such as the crevices between couch pillows, the space between rugs and rug pads, or underneath furniture. Outdoors, you can bury the "bones" in soil about an inch below the surface. Provide some sophisticated archaeological tools--such as a spoon--to uncover the bones and a brush to clean off loose soil.

Once the dig is complete, see if your archaeologist can construct a skeleton; provide nontoxic glue for the popsicle sticks. The pipe cleaners can simply be twisted into spines, necks, ribs, and so on.

When the skeleton is complete, put it in an appropriate display and give it a prominent place in the playroom.
