Moed Katan 20

MOED KATAN 19, 20 - anonymously dedicated my an Ohev Torah and Marbitz Torah in Ramat Beit Shemesh, Israel.

1) [line 2] REGEL MAFSIKO - the festival suspends it (e.g. the days of Shiv'ah. The Tana of the Beraisa rules that if a person sits for one or two days before the Regel, he must sit for the remainder of the days of Shiv'ah after the Regel. The Halachah does not follow this opinion -- see SHULCHAN ARUCH OC 548:7)

2) [line 3] ISKEI RABIM - (lit. public matters) the obligation of the public to comfort the mourner, which they do on the festival (SHULCHAN ARUCH OC 548:6, see also Insights to Sukah 41:3)

b) [line 37] SHEMU'AH KEROVAH - [the period of mourning upon hearing] a recent report [of a relative's death]

Several reasons are cited to explain his abandonment of tradition. (Chagigah 14b-15b, Kidushin 39b); (b) Our Gemara is referring to another Tana by the name of Elisha ben Avuyah, from an earlier generation, since Rebbi Tzadok was already an old man at the time of the Bris Milah of Elisha ben Avuyah Acher (YA'AVETZ); (c) The correct Girsa should follow the Girsa in Maseches Semachos Chapter 12, where no Tana'im besides Rebbi Tzadok are mentioned with regard to this story (RASHASH)
