CHASIDIC INSIGHTS PARSHAS DVORIM 5762 BS"D

Ch. 1, v. 1: "Asher di'beir Moshe el kol Yisroel" - Moshe was capable of speaking in a manner that reached each of the bnei Yisroel on his level. (Rabbi Boruch of Viznitz in Imrei Boruch)

Ch. 1, v. 1: "Bamidbor bo'arovoh" - The head of the generation should speak (read "bamidbor" as "bimda'deir" with sweetness, "bo'arovoh." (Noam Elimelech)

Ch. 1, v. 1: "Bo'arovoh mol Suf" - The Rambam in "shmonoh prokim" writes that it is proper to spur on a child to learn Torah and behave properly by bribing him with a prize. This does not end when he matures. The Rambam writes that at further stages the same should be done, but obviously with appropriate lures for that age. We can thus read these words of our verse as "bo'arovoh," with sweetness (of the coaxing of a prize) with an eye towards the goal, "mol sof," of developing as a Torah personality. (Nirreh li)

Ch. 1, v. 1: "V'di zohov" - A person should distance himself from material excesses, "v'dai zohov," - I have sufficient wealth. (Rabbi Yaakov Yoseif of Ostroh)

Ch. 1, v. 11: "Hashem Elokei avoseichem yoseif a'leichem kochem" - Hashem will increase His blessing upon you "kochem," as you are. To whatever level you reach through your own endeavour, Hashem will respond in kind. (Rabbi Moshe of Pshevorsk in Ohr Pnei Moshe)

Ch. 1, v. 14: "Tov hadovor asher dibarto laasos" - "Dibur" is a word form that connotes harshness. The threat of the harshness of Your warning is good in that it brings people into line and it suffices to only threaten to do, "dibarto laasos" and not actually punish. (Rabbi Yaakov Zvi of Dinov in Emes l'Yaakov)

Ch. 1, v. 16: "Vo'atzaveh es shofteichem bo'eis hahee" - If the judges only look at what is at hand, "bo'eis hahee," and not concern themselves with the future, i.e. concerns of threats, possible personal monetary gains, then they will be able to judge properly. (Rabbi Avrohom Dovid of Botshatsh in Machazeh Avrohom)

Ch. 1, v. 16: "Bo'eis hahee leimore shomoa bein acheichem" - Only at that time, before the coming of Moshiach, is it required to hear the claims of the litigants. When Moshiach comes he will be able to judge who is in the right by his power of smell. (Kedushas Levi)
