CHASIDIC INSIGHTS PARSHAS VA'YEISHEV 5763 BS"D

Ch. 37, v. 1: "M'gu'rei oviv b'eretz K'no'an" - Yaakov had fear of his Father, Hashem, even among the degenerate people of Canaan. (Rabbi Moshe of Kobrin in Toras Ovos)

Ch. 37, v. 2: "Ben shva esrei shonoh" - Just as Yaakov provided for all of Yoseif's needs for the first 17 years of his life, so too, Yoseif provide Yaakov's sustenance for the last 17 years of his life. (Rabbi Avrohom of Slonim in Toras Ovos)

Ch. 37, v. 11: "V'oviv shomar es hadovor" - Read "hadovor" as "hadibur." His father guarded his speech. (Baal Shem Tov)

Ch. 37, v. 14: "R'ei es shlome achecho" - See the wholesomeness of your brothers, and not their shortcomings. (The Holy Admor of Radomsk in Tiferes Shlomo)

Ch. 38, v. 21: "A'yei hakdeishoh hee vo'einayim" - Where is sanctity? It is in the eyes, dependent upon guarding one's eyes. (The Holy Admor of Radomsk in Tiferes Shlomo)

Ch. 38, v. 26: "Tzodkoh mi'meni ki al kein lo n'satihoh l'Sheiloh v'ni" - She is more righteous than I. I feared for the life of my son Sheiloh, which was a questionable danger, and she faced certain death, and in spite of this she did not reveal who it was. (Reb Hirsch Lisker in Ach Pri S'vu'oh)

Ch. 38, v. 29: "Va'y'hi k'meishiv yodo v'hi'nei yotzo ochiv" - And it was at the time that Hashem retracted His hand, i.e. He removed His protection, and there was no Beis Hamikdosh and the bnei Yisroel were in exile, then his brother, Moshiach came. (The Holy Admor of Radomsk in Tiferes Shlomo)

Ch. 39, v. 1: "V'Yoseif hurad Mitzroymoh" - And Yoseif was to master over Egypt, from the word form "r'dioh," as in "v'yirdu" (Breishis 1:26). (Rabbi Moshe Dovid of Veislitz in Migdal Dovid)

Ch. 39, v. 2: "Va'y'hi Hashem es Yoseif" - Yoseif always cleaved to Hashem, whether in the circumstance of "ish matzliach," whether in the circumstance of "b'veis adonov haMitzri." (Rebbe Reb Bunim of Parshis'cha in Likutei Kole Simchoh)

Ch. 39, v. 2: "Va'y'hi ish matzliach" - "Va'y'hi" connotes pain. Yoseif was pained by his being successful, but having it accrue for his Egyptian master, "va'y'hi b'veis adonov haMitzri." (Rabbi Yechiel Michel of Galina in Kav V'noki)

Ch. , v. : "V'eich e'e'seh horo'oh ...... v'chotosI" -Since Yoseif refused to sin with the wife of Potiphar, an act that would have required the participation of both of them, should he not have said, "v'eich NA'A'SEH horooh ...... V'CHOTONU? Since the wife of Potiphar attempted to seduce Yoseif, he wanted to distance himself from her as far as possible and would not even express himself verbally in a manner that would include her with himself.
