If a person knew that everything is from G-d, both the good and the bad in life, he would never fear anything. This is like a father who dons a costume in order to frighten his young son. The child is only scared at first, but once he realizes that it is his father, he cries out in a loud voice, Father, father! Then, the father s heart fills with love for his child and he removes his disguise and reveals himself. Likewise, if a person truly knew that all of his suffering was actually his Heavenly Father in disguise, looking to see if His son recognizes Him, then his pain would be eased. One who doesn t realize this, however, searches for earthly remedies, for he cannot rid himself of his suffering. From the Baal Shem Tov
