I Know
"I know that G-d is great" (Psalms 135:5).
These are King David's words; I know, I alone know --
for the vision of G-d cannot be shared. You may have a
vision, but you cannot even share it with yourself. Today
you may be inspired and see a new light, but tomorrow you
will no longer be able to communicate it. Even to
yourself. "I know" -- as I am now. For the
vision cannot be brought back.
A perception of G-d cannot be communicated. It is so
lofty, so high, that words cannot express it.

Sichos HaRan
Herein lies the entire point our sages sought to convey
to us through their writings. To stand us on that
threshold, as small as the eye of a needle, which is the
recognition that everything comes from G-d, blessed be
He. Then G-d, Himself, opens the chambers of our hearts,
that we may know and understand with depth and certainty
how everything is from G-d, and that all the wise
men and leaders of past generations are also the leaders
of our generation, teaching and enlightening us as well.
Because, you see, we come from them, and each
generation contains within it all subsequent generations,
as the soul of the son lies within the soul of the
father. This present generation was itself included
within all the generations from Moses until the present.
Therefore, our sages wrote their wisdom in books to aid
those coming after them, for all were truly included in
their own generation and in their own souls.

Likutey Mamorim 46a
When a person has faith in the Sages of Israel, his mind
becomes purified and he attains a clear consciousness.
Then, from everything he learns, he will be able to
derive proper actions and attitudes in the Service of
G-d. He will know how to behave in every situation,
whether in regards to himself, or towards others who
depend upon his direction.
