prepared by Rabbi Eliezer Chrysler

Previous daf

Shabbos 84

1) 'Shalosh Agalos Hen:

  1. Asuyah ke'Katadra, Temei'ah Medras;
  2. ke'Mitah, Tamei Mes;
  3. shel Avanim, Tehorah mi'K'lum'.
What are the reasons for these three statements?

2)

(a) A large chest, whose door is at the side, and on whose top people tend to sleep, is Metamei Tum'as Medras; whereas if the door is on top, it is not.
Why is that?

(b) Is the latter Metamei at all?

(c) How do we reconcile Rebbi Yochanan, who said above (in Perek Bamah Ishah) that 'Amod ve'Na'aseh Melachtenu' applies to Tum'as Mes, with this Beraisa, which clearly holds that it does not?

(d) What is a Teivah ha'Ba'ah be'Midah, and what Din does it have regarding Tum'ah?

3)
(a) 'Medras Kli Cheres, Tahor. Rebbi Yossi Omer, Af ha'Sefinah'. Rav Zevid explains the Beraisa like this: 'Medras Kli Cheres, Tahor (u'Maga'o Tamei; u'Sefinah shel Cheres, Temei'ah ka'Chananya)'. Rebbi Yossi Omer, Af ha'Sefinah) Tehorah, ke'Tana Didan).
What does Rav Papa ask on this from the Lashon 'Af'?

(b) How does Rav Papa therefore explain the Machlokes?

(c) What do we learn from either of the following Pesukim in Vayikra:

  1. "ve'Ish Asher Yishkav be'*Mishkavo"".
  2. "ke'Mishkav *Nidasah* Yihyeh Lah"?
4)
(a) What is a Mapatz, and why would we think that it is not subject to Tum'as Mes?

(b) How do we learn that it is, in fact, Tamei Tum'as Mes, from earthenware jars with narrow necks?

(c) Why is this a Kashya on the previous Derashah from the two Pesukim in Vayikra?

Answers to questions

5)

(a) Why is Mapatz be'Mes not subject to Tevilah?

(b) According to the principle we just learned, seeing as a Mapatz is not subject to Tevilah, how can it be subject to Tum'as Mes (Rebbi Chanina)?

(c) What was Rebbi Ila'a's comment on Rebbi Chanina's answer?

(d) How do the two (seemimgly contradictory) Pesukim in Vayikra "ve'Ish Asher Yishkav be'*Mishkavo*", and "ve'*Chol ha'Mishkav* Asher Yishkav Alav ha'Zav" vindicate Rebbi Chanina?

6)
(a) Rava learns that there is no Tum'as Medras by earthenware vessels, from the Pasuk in Bamidbar "ve'Chol Kli Pasu'ach Asher Ein Tzamid Pasil Alav, Tamei Hu".
How does he imply it from *there*?

(b) Does Tum'as Heset apply to earthenware vessels which are sealed shut?

7)
(a) How many different kinds of seeds may one sow in a patch of six Tefachim by six Tefachim?

(b) How do we derive this from the Pasuk in Yeshayah "Ki ka'Aretz Totzi Tzimchah, u'ke'Ganah Zeru'eha Tatzmi'ach"? Where is the Shiur of six Tefachim hinted there?

(c) How must the rows be sown, and why are we not concerned about the seeds at the ends of the rows feeding from each other?

(d) How much space is required between the seed in the middle and those in the four rows, and why is that?

8) Is our Sugya dealing with Kila'im d'Oraysa, or Kil'ayim de'Rabbanan?
