Succa 5:4
Chasidim and men of great actions danced before the cohanim with burning
torches in their hands. They said words of song and praises. The leviim had
harps, lyres, cymbals, trumpets and many instruments.
There were 15 steps going down between Ezras Yisrael and Ezras Nashim which
was the same amount of shir hamaalos [songs of going up] that are in sefer
Tehillim. On these steps the leviim stood to sing and play instruments. Two
cohanim stood by the Upper Gate with two trumpets and the crier called out blow
Tekia Teruah Tekia [____ _ _ _ _____].
They walked to the 10th step and they blew Tekia Teruah Tekia
[____ _ _ _ _____]. They reached the floor and again they blew Tekia Teruah
Tekia [____ _ _ _ _____]. They kept blowing until they got to the Eastern Gate.
When they reached it they turned around and said, ‘Our fathers that were in
this place had their backsides to the Heichel and their faces to the east as
they worshipped avoda zora. They bowed to the east. However, our eyes are turned
to you.’ R’ Yehuda says they also said, ‘And to Hashem our eyes.’
