Yuma 6:7
The cohein gadol goes to his ox and the he-goat that got burned. He slits
them open and takes out the innards and puts them in a bowl and burns them on
the mizbaiach. He takes the rest of the animals on 2 poles with the animals
twisted together to be brought to the place where they are are to be burned.
The people and their clothes who take the animals there become tamai when
they leave the courtyard. R’ Shimon says they become tamai when the fire
catches on most of the two animals .
Yuma 6:8
They related to the cohein gadol that the he-goat of Azazel reached the
wilderness of the cliff [12mil]. They knew this because they had people wave
cloths.
R’ Yehuda says they only waited until they knew the he-goat had reached the
beginning of the wilderness which was 3 mil. They determined this by walking a
mil and back and then waiting the time it takes to walk one more mil.
R’ Yishmael says they had another sign. When the he-goat reached the
wilderness the strip of red wool by the door of the kodesh turned white.
