Women, slaves, and children are not obligated in succa. A child who does not need his mother is not obligated in the succa. There was a story with the daughter-in-law of Bais Shammai who opened the roof and put on sichach for her little child.

Succa 2:9

All seven days a person should make his succa a permanent dwelling. If it rains so much that a porridge would become ruined, he is not obligated to live in the succa.
