Succa 4:4
For the mitzva of lulav in the times of the Bais Hamikdash, when the first
day of Yom Tov came out on Shabbos they would bring their lulavim before Shabbos
to the Bais Hamikdash. The attendants would accept them and put them on a
platform. The next morning the attendants would throw them before the people
telling them that whoever gets a lulav it is a present for them as on the first
day of Succas the lulav must belong to the person using it.
The attendants saw that when the people grabbed their lulavim they were
hitting each other and it was becoming dangerous, so they said that everyone
should keep their lulav at home.
Succa 4:5
The mitzva of arava in the times of the Bais Hamikdash was done by going down
to a place below Yerushalayim called Motza. There they would collect large
willow branches and then stand them up on the side of the outside mizbaiach. The
top of the willow branch would be bending over the mizbaiach.
They blew a trumpet Tekia Teruah Tekia [____ _ _ _ _____]. They walked around
the mizbaiach one time saying, ‘ Ana Hashem Hoshea Na, Ana Hashem Hatzlicha Na
[Please Hashem bring us redemption now, Please Hashem bring us success now]’.
R’ Yehuda says they said, ‘Ani Vho Hoshea Na’ [Hashem bring redemption
now].
On the seventh day of Succos, they would walk around 7 times. When they were
finished they would say, ‘Beauty to you mizbaiach, beauty to you mizbaiach.’
R’ Eliezer says they would say, ‘To Kah and to you mizbaiach, To Kah and to
you mizbaiach.’
