Parshas Devarim

In reference to the spies, the posuk says, ’Acheinu haimasu livaveinu’, our brothers weakened our hearts. What does the posuk mean by brothers?

The spies, the princes, returned to report negatives about Eretz Yisrael.  Why would Bnei Yisrael believe them? Maybe they said bad because they knew that they would not be princes in Eretz Yisrael and therefore did not want to go there.

The medrash answers this question saying that each prince took helpers with him. When the helpers agreed with what the princes said, Bnei Yisrael listened. That is why the posuk says ‘their brothers’, because in the end that’s who they listened to.
