Parshas Noach

It says in the Posek ‘Vayizkor Elokim es Noah ves kol hachaya ves kol habeheima’ – and Hashem remembered Noach and all the animals.

Ramban--- ‘Noach’ means including his children. It did not mention them directly since they were saved in his zechus [merit]. ‘Animals’ are mentioned even though they do not have a concept of merit to show that Hashem wanted the world to continue to have all the species of animals. The posuk did not specify the crawling creatures because once it is established that Hashem wanted all animal species to continue, we can extend this concept to include any crawling creatures.

Rabeinu Bachayee--- says the word ‘es’ comes to add his children and the wives. [In other words they were equal to Noach in the concept of remembrance.] The animals which were not equal to Noach in specific Divine providence [hashgacha protis], were equal to him in general providence [hashgacha klalis] which is what the remembrance was. [This was true for the animals who were created on the same day as man, which excludes the birds who were therefore not mentioned in this posuk].
