Parshas Vayishlach
Why does the Torah not detail the miracle of Avraham in the Kivshan Haaish [the burning
furnace]?
Ramban---explains that there were two types of miracles here. A public miracle when
Avrohom came out of the furnace alive and a hidden miracle when he was expelled from Ur
Kasdim and not killed. He answers that if the Torah would recite the whole story, then it
would have to include what the people of Ur Kasdim thought of it. They thought that
Avraham used witchcraft and apparently he had no proof against that claim. The issue of
witchcraft was only cleared up later by Moshe with the plagues, where witchcraft was
totally discredited. The Torah did not want to bring up those issues so the miracle was
not mentioned. The hidden miracle, that he was just expelled from the country rather then
killed, is treated as all hidden miracles in the Torah with just a reference to it with
the word hotzeisicha, referring to the fact that Hashem saved him.
Rabainu Bachayaaanswers this question saying that the whole miracle was hidden,
as not many people saw it. Hidden miracles are just referenced without elaboration.
