Parshas Zos Habracha

‘Vlo yada ish as kivuraso’ – no one knew where Moshe was buried. Chazal interpret this differently, saying that Moshe is the ish [man] who did not know where he was buried. What is Chazal trying to bring out by saying Moshe himself did not know?

The posuk never really says exactly why Moshe Rabbeinu was buried outside of Eretz Yisrael. Chazal explain that Moshe was so great, if he would have reached Eretz Yisrael, who knows how far Klal Yisrael would have risen. Apparently, Hashem wanted Klal Yisrael to grow on their own without relying on Moshe their leader. Moshe did not know this about himself, since he was the most humble person in the world. He therefore did not understand the importance of his kivura being outside of Eretz Yisrael - ‘Vlo yada ish as kivuraso’.
